DEAR

Greetings from Diemersfontein!  Good heavens – it was as if the summer peeped in round the door and decided to run off again! But thank the good heavens for the rain! The water crisis in the Cape has become such a dire situation that few people even want to talk about it… but at some stage we might have to. For now, let’s keep praying for rain and use our water resource as wisely and conservatively as possible.

This time of year, is always a very special time of year to Diemersfontein, when we eagerly watch the new growth develop in the vineyards as we await the coming spring. Our Pinotage On Tap events are of course the highlight of the month, with the Cape Town leg coming up in a few days – and in the meantime the farm is being pampered and manicured to perfection in anticipation of our coming fans!

Remember, there is always plenty of action and fun on the farm – so if ever you’re looking for place to visit, be it for a meal, a weekend or a glass of wine, you know where to find us!

Hope we see you soon, and if not here, always in spirit!

Regards from the farm x

AWARD WINNERS

It’s been a month of thrills and delight on the estate in Wellington after we scooped up not one, but two coveted trophies for two wines in our flagship Carpe Diem range. First the Diemersfontein Carpe Diem Malbec 2015 shone brightly at the Novare SA Terroir awards when it was crowned the national winner in the Malbec category and then our Diemersfontein Carpe Diem Pinotage 2015 walked away with a place in the ABSA Top10 Pinotage competition for 2017.

The Diemersfontein Carpe Diem range truly reflects the dream of making world class innovative wines from Wellington. We invite you to seize the day and raise a glass of these momentous wines to salute our winemaker, Francois Roode and his team on producing wines that make us all a little more joyful every day.

Just in time for SPRING, our gorgeous Diemersfontein Rose has been awarded a gold medal in the Rose Rocks competition 2017

Did you know? Rosé is currently one of the fastest growing categories of wine in both South Africa and internationally? In SA alone, sales have trebled between 2007 – 2014

PINOTAGE ON TAP – CAPE TOWN – 2 SEPTEMBER 2017

The MOTHERSHIP of this years’ famous Pinotage On Tap festivals is about to descend on home ground!

After pulling off yet another fantastic (sell-out performance) Pinotage On Tap event in Johannesburg earlier this month, it’s time for this highly acclaimed event to roll-out on home base at Diemersfontein Wine Estate! The date is 2 September 2017 – and this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever before!

Well, if the reports of what happened in Joburg are anything to go by – and by that we mean how tickets sold out before the event and people were distraught when they could get any! – then Cape Town fans had better be sure to get their tickets in time!

NEXT EVENTS: Dates, venues & bands:

  • 2 September: Cape Town, Diemersfontein Wine Estate, Rubber Duc, The Stone Jets, Newton & Co
  • 16 September: KZN, The Litchi Orchard, Umhlali, Rubber Duc, The Kickstands
  • 4 November: Free State, Clarens, The Stone Jets, Simon

Tickets are R295pp (Yes, we’ve discounted them by a whopping 30%!) but that still includes your entry to the event, the much-loved goodie bag on arrival, Pinotage wine – literally flowing freely from the barrel taps, (hence the “on tap” bit), top live music bands – and the best wine fest experience EVER! This year POT offers a selection of top food caterers and traders so that fans will be able to pick and choose and buy the meals they choose to pair with their wine.

What’s this about BIGGER and BETTER? It’s EXACTLY that! After careful consideration of all the aspects that have made Pinotage On Tap such a roaring success over the last decade, (and a few not so cool ideas, we’ll admit) the organisers and marketing team had a serious session with the drawing board – and formulated the winning plan!

With considerable reflection on all the key elements that really stood out (like the massive chocolate fountains) and together with the demands of fans, a whole new POT plan was devised.

So get this… The ticket price has been reduced by a whopping 30 %! – in an effort to creatively recreate the event – with the intention of taking you back to how things were done back in 2014 – when POT first won the prize title for the best wine event in the world.
“Some things have changed and some things will remain the same, but we have heard our fans and we are pulling out ALL the stops to give you a POT fest you’ll never forget!” says Dawn Arendse, Chief event Coordinator of the POT brand.

Get your Tickets at Computicket – uhhmmm, sooner than later

PINK ROCKS AND ROCK STARS PROMOTION

This month, we wish to celebrate two of our celebrity wines – who are currently enjoying much of their well-deserved lime-light!

As you may know, we are in the middle of our highly recognised roadshow of Pinotage On Tap festivals and the next one up (the BIG one) will be held right here at home on Diemersfontein soils! (2 September). Since this festival was first initiated – by the idea of honouring our famous brain-chid, the Original Coffee Chocolate Pinotage, (by way of a humble party and a handful of guests I might add) the idea of celebrating each new vintage, together with our fans has become a rather sentimental time of year for us!

The story about the rock star Pinotage… David Sonnenberg (Owner) often refers to his two vastly different Pinotages as two sisters, and compares them as such. One is a rather quiet and reserved child, an academic who adores classical music… (Carpe Diem Pinotage) and the other tends to be a bit of a wild-child, an adventurous rebel with hopes of becoming a rock-star! (No need to tell you who this is.)

The other Diemersfontein wine that deserves a round of applause – and will be boasting a GOLD MEDAL from now on is our Diemersfontein Rose! Having just won Gold at the recent “Rosé Rocks!” Competition (South Africa’s first dedicated rosé wine competition) recognises excellence in rosé winemaking and promotes the SA Rosé category.

Did you know? That Rosé is currently one of the fastest growing categories of wine in both South Africa and internationally?  In SA alone, sales have trebled between 2007 – 2014.

And on this note, Diemersfontein Wine offers you our awesome Case for the month:

“Pink Rocks and Rock Stars” – at only R525.00 per case!

IT’S A STAR-STUDDED MONTH FOR THOKOZANI

Diemersfonteins’ BBBEE empowerment company Thokozani hits another home run! (or three!) With a string of recent achievements, the Thokozani brand is stepping up above them all!

Recently one of the Thokozani Wine brands, namely Ovation (also available in Woolworths) was launched in Quebec, Canada and listed by the formidable SAQ (The Canadian Monopoly). See the picture below, sent to us by Sylvie & Jean Lambert of Quebec, with the message “Look at what we bought today at our local SAQ! It’s here at last!”

During Woman’s month, Woolworths South Africa selected none other than our very own Denise Stubbs, (Managing Director at Thokozani) to feature in an article about successful women in the business of empowerment.

As if all this fame was not enough – some of the Thokozani staff recently took part in the 2017 Agri’s Got Talent competition, where they took to the stage and mic as if they were born for it! We had no idea that we had such fantastic talent and singing sensations among us!

We are proud to announce that our very own Jason Tiras was awarded the 3rd runner up position, followed by Riaan Le Roux who won the prize for being such a positive inspiration and for keeping the team going during a very stressful week of training.  Well done guys, and a loud round of applause!

AND ON THAT NOTE …

… we bid you goodbye, enjoy your wines and we hope to see you soon! For more information, please visit our website at www.diemersfontein.co.za
