Greetings from Diemersfontein! Good heavens – but the winter season is well and truly upon us now! When social media posts start broadcasting that “Cape Town is freezing” then you can just imagine how cold it is out here in the Boland!
However, do not let the colder weather deter you from coming out to visit us! In fact the winter season is one of the most visually spectacular times of year. The vineyards may look a little bare but it’s a stunning picture no less. The mountain tops are dusted with snow, the waterfalls are clearly visible and the winter sunsets can be quite exquisite. We do of course have the indoor fire going in the restaurant at all times, Andy is always busy cooking up another surprise – and when on a wine farm, there’s always plenty of wine to go around! What more could you possibly ask for?
Furthermore, our guesthouse rooms are cosy and snug, with an old-world charm that will warm your heart, so don’t put off that romantic getaway idea just because of the cold – it might just be the best reason yet! (and you can take advantage of our winter accommodation special)

ON THE FARM
A word from the Winemaker …
It has started to quiet down quite a bit in the cellar now, with only the soft drumming of a small pump that’s task it is to move wine from tanks to barrels. We also are busy working on the new Ovation wine vintages which are scheduled to be bottled in a month or so.
At this time of year (when I’m a little less tied down in the cellar) our marketing efforts are put into full swing. So for me it’s a matter of keeping the travel bag in the car and meeting with as many of our customers as possible. I also attend various festivals, expos and wine dinners to ensure I am spread out as far as possible!
With regard to new releases… I do have something I’d love to share with you, however I have not been given the go-ahead to divulge just yet… So keep your eyes and ears posted, there is yet another cat in the bag…
We are of course delighted about the recent rains we received and our dam levels are slowly beginning to rise. Hopefully more rain will bring the necessary water that is so crucially needed to replenish our reserves. Waldo, our viticulturist is about to begin with the winter pruning and you will also notice how the cover-crop between the vines has begun to grow – and soon the vineyards will display their plush green carpets.
