Heralded as a success

The first Wellington Wine Harvest Festival (23 to 25th March) brought many local and Capetonian visitors to the heart of the Boland to revel in some good wine and food experiences as well some fun activities centred around the business of living in wine country.
One such event was Diemersfontein’s fun games event, with a fish braai and the very popular Carpe Diem Viognier on offer. Visitors could try their hand at throwing the Wellington Boot – not as easy as it looks! Best distance thrown by a male contestant was awarded a box of Diemersfontein Wines as was the best distance thrown by a female..Then there was the Olive Pip Spitting, which also yielded best man, best woman spitter! And for the very energetic – rolling the (empty) wine barrel around a demarcated course! No real winners here although Diemersfontein’s assistant to the winemakers did complete the course in 43 seconds! (A trial run by the writer was clocked in at 2 mins!).
Record sales were made at the Diemersfontien Wine Tasting centre over the festival weekend.
