
Diemersfontein Wine and Country Estate has belonged to the Sonnenberg family since the 1940s. David's grandfather bought the 183ha farm in the shadow of the Hawekwa Mountains with a panoramic view of Du Toit's Kloof and Bain's Kloof.
From the stoep of the gabled Groot Huis, blue gums rustling in a hot summer breeze framed my view of the sweeping gardens, paddocks, dam and distant Paarl. The perfect breakfast spot.
Yet another week passes and the Cape Doctor keeps pumping with no windless day in site.
With constant wind hitting the Cape and outside being unpleasant, our area has a lot of other things to do like drinking great wines and eating great food. So, instead of feeling sorry for yourself why not pick up a great bottle of wine a few ingredients and create a great day in full of food, wine and friends?
This last week, I have been to a few wine tastings and I have had a great opportunity to taste many good wines along with good food and I have met some great people in the industry. You would generally think that going to a few wine tastings, one would have a lot more to write about, but nothing really caught my attention.
Don't get me wrong; they were great wines.
Once again, I have to thank my father for introducing a great wine to me. He has the weekends to find and taste new wines, which inevitably get passed on to me at some stage.
The wine this week which really caught my taste buds was the Thokozani 2011 Red Blend from Diemersfontein in Wellington.
